Effects of a convention on downtown business

There are reports on Lancaster Online’s TalkBack that businesses in the 300 block of North Queen Street suffered a noticeable loss of business during the recent quilt convention.  A theory is that locals stayed away to avoid heavy downtown traffic, and visitors spent all of their time in or near the convention center.

The tour buses parked along Queen Street and the “rent-a-cop” people directing and stopping traffic really buggered things up Friday afternoon trying to get through…maybe some thought will go into traffic control for future events.
