Education funding: Charter school reforms are a must

From the HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS Editorial:

…While the expansion overall has been a good move, giving parents more choices for their children’s education, the law governing the schools has not been updated significantly since 1997. It woefully lacks enough oversight for the growing system to make certain there is consistency and academic and financial safeguards…

A shining example of the movement would be Infinity Charter School in Penbrook that recently was named a national Blue Ribbon school. But another school in our region, Ronald H. Brown Charter School, was shut down in 2006 after problems, including a finding of “serious deficiencies” with the Harrisburg school’s financial record keeping…

Pennsylvanians should have a charter school law that provides better accountability — especially because these schools are funded through public monies…

  1. In light of the article above this one (Nobel prize winner not a good science student), it appears even the education experts don’t always get it right. Still it seems to me that way too many people are pulling basic education in far too many directions.
