EDITORIAL: City a Victim of History

Had our predecessors drawn the Lancaster City borders to include current day Lancaster, Manheim, Hempfield, East and West Lampeter townships, rather than appearing to be the prodigal son of the region, it would likely be a model of fiscal prudence!

  1. So I’m waiting for some great statement of fiscal prudence.

They, the city, have taken a number of properties from the surrounding townships in the form of annexation back in the era that they could rob from the surrounding townships, and where has that gotten them?

Just look at the amount of non taxable property that was allowed to exist in the city and stop throwing the spear at the county government buildings. I am sure that having the government buildings in the city provides for people to spend their money in the city.

Where would private business be without these people who work downtown?
