EDITOR: Prosecutors often think that they are in a sporting event and their job is to win, even when it means surpressing evidence or supressing the rights of the poor and ignorant. Dershowitz is correct: Their real duty is to see that justice occurs. Always winning cases should be considered a mark of shame, not a badge of glory.
Mr. Editor, This is one of the most important and insightful posts I have ever read. It does, in fact, seem like the goverment’s prosecutors are interested only in winning. This is a shameful development in the justice system over the past decade. Thank you for saying it so well.
