Deregulation: Tweaks, yes, but purchasing model works

PATRIOT-NEWS:  It’s a bit extreme to say everything is coming up roses in Pennsylvania’s deregulated electric markets, but by and large the transition to deregulation has been a success…

A healthy amount of consumers in retail, commercial and industrial sectors shopped around for their electricity. The figures speak for themselves: 20 percent of all consumers have switched, according to Papowerswitch.com, the government website that tracks such statistics. In the PPL territory, that figure is close to 40 percent for residential customers, and in some parts of the market, especially industrial, the switching has been as high as 80 percent to 90 percent…

The message the PUC heard this week from written and oral testimony from utilities, colleges and consumer advocates was mostly positive, and it’s not often that all of those groups sing the same tune…   (more)
