I see much weeping and gnashing of teeth over this ruling, but not that much change in substance. The biggest change appears to be that corporations and unions will now be allowed to advertise on issues and for/against candidates with 30/60 days of an election.
Isn’t it ironic that the liberal left, who have based their ‘populist’ rhetoric on bashing any and all big business, are those who are screaming loudest? This ruling would appear to allow big business to fight back. Obama can get all kinds of free time to tell us how evil big business is, but business has been very limited in how it can respond.
Don’t get me wrong, the Wall Street investment bankers have been incredibly greedy and arrogant, but our economy depends on capitalism, which depends on businesses making profits. Unfortunately the liberal left has turned profit into a four-letter word.
Anyway, my read on this decision is that it evens things out a bit. It’s not the end of life as we know it.
No, it is not “the end of life as we know it”. It is more of the same.
May God have mercy on the people of the United States of America
