Everyone in the media seems to be forgetting that at least in the case of the most recent contract with the fire fighter’s union, the city DID NOT arbitrate the contract. Mayor Gray and Patrick Hopkins both signed the contract after what the fire fighters believed was a three month series of good faith negotiations. The city signed the contract.
No one held a gun to the mayor’s head, and no one forced him to make any of the agreements therein.
This situation, at least in the case of the fire fighter’s contract is exclusively and wholly the mayor’s baby. It is time for him to stop playing the blame game and start accepting his own role in the situation.
Man up, Mr. Mayor.
When have you ever known the mayor to own up to or take responsibility for anything?
