David Cameron’s chances of becoming prime minister were boosted on Friday when Nick Clegg said the Conservatives should have the first chance of forming the next government after the UK’s general election produced the first hung parliament in a generation.
The Liberal Democrat leader stood by his view that the party with the most votes and seats should have the chance to show they could form a government either alone or with other parties. The Tories had to prove they were “capable of seeking to govern in the national interest….
Mr Cameron will need to rely on other parties to support a Conservative administration. With 29 constituencies still to declare, the Conservatives had won 291 seats, making it impossible for them to reach the threshold of 326 for an overall majority…
