So we should bankrupt the City (and taxpayers) so a few chosen citizens can have healthcare plans above and beyond normal AND at minimal cost to these chosen few citizens? Every responsible citizen should be concerned about this gross inequity.
Yes, police and fire fighters have an occupation that exposes them to danger, but they don’t even make the top 10 most dangerous jobs.
To answer your question, our healthcare costs have increased because we have a “all-inclusive resort style” healthcare plan when the trend is shared cost plans. The City, police officers, and fire fighters CAN change this to a more reasonable plan. They can’t change the increased costs of healthcare no more than they can control the cost of college tuition which has also seen ridiculous cost escalation.
