Chrysler first-quarter profit up more than 300%

USA TODAY: …The profit was on net revenue of $16.4 billion, up 25% from a year ago. And its net debt has been cut to $1.3 billion as of March 31 vs. $3.4 billion a year ago…

And in the key U.S. market, upon which Chrysler still is more dependent than most other automakers, the group’s sales were up about 40% in the quarter and market share was up two full points from a year ago to 9.2% — this in an industry that scraps over 10ths of a point in share.

The remarkable comeback has been driven by its 16 new or significantly refreshed new Chrysler Group models. The company also now is seeing some sales traction with the Fiat 500, which is distributed by Chrysler in the U.S. And the company is about to launch its first Chrysler new product based on a Fiat platform, the Dodge Dart, based on the Alfa Romeo Guilietta…  (more)
