Challenges City fire department has “too many supervisors”

[In response to “Hearing elaborates City budget items”]

Tim Gregg has already determined that he will excise 9 junior fire fighters. This is a done deal. He complains about having “too many supervisors” yet this is the only aspect of NFPA 1710 that the city actually follows:

5.2.2.2.2 Each company shall be led by an officer who shall be considered a part of the
company.

The language is clear. The only way for Tim Gregg to reduce the number of “supervisors” is to reduce the number of fire apparatus on the line in the city.

Instead of trying to reduce the fire department, which Tim Gregg admitted is far below the once acceptable number of 110, he should be striving to restore the fire department to those workable numbers.

If he can’t or won’t take those steps, he should immediately resign and make room for someone who will.
