My brother and I were in attendance at the convention center meeting Wednesday night. We were the guys who had the upcoming comedy event planned at the Marriott.
We have been residing in the Lancaster area for the last 20 years. We started a small entertainment company. We have hosted and produced several comedy and jazz concerts throughout the area in various venues. Most recently, we have hosted 2 comedy shows at the Puerto Rican Culture Center in Lancaster. Each event ended in a sellout of attendees.
The event that was planned for May 23rd at the convention center was a comedy show with dinner and live jazz, followed by a South Beach style party with a white dress code. This would have been one of the trendiest things to hit this area.
We were so disappointed with this second postponement. We were in the offices of the Marriott in late March expressing our concerns about the news that there would be a late start. May 11th was the new [opening] date, so our event was still safe. But it is no longer safe.
We could have saved ourselves a lot of money if the Marriott would have allowed us to pull out in late March. We have sold tickets and handed out 5000 flyers for this event. This fiasco has the great potential of destroying a small business like ours.
