Casino is not out of the question

Now that the Quilt Museum is closing, I’m certain the CC will also lose the visitors who come for the quilting conventions. Another blow for the CC. Many, myself included, said at the inception that the CC would serve well as a casino. The decorating is perfect for a casino…..garish.

As far as Lancaster County being too conservative for a casino, I think we will be surprised at what can happen when financial disaster is looming.

  1. With the millions of dollars in regulatory fees paid to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board casinos pay close to 60 percent of its gross revenue to the state.

The lowest tax rate on stand-alone casinos is Nevada’s 8 percent. The highest, behind Pennsylvania’s, is Illinois, where the graduated tax rate can surpass 50 percent, but averages 36.1 percent.

This extortion makes it impossible to profitably run a casino in Lancaster.

  2. If there is a way for PSP to profit from a casino…….consider it done.

Downtown needs a ‘major’ attraction to draw overnight guests on a consistent / regular basis. Seven days a week gambling will fill that bill, like nothing else will.

I wonder how many ‘return engagements’ the CC is booking after ‘first-timer’s’ experiencing the nightmare of unloading/loading docks/street access, and lack of convenient parking for anything larger than a car or pick-up truck. This facility had so many design and operational flaws from the outset.

The saving grace is that LNP can look out their ivy covered windows everyday and see this White Elephant they helped create.
