Casey to chair joint economic panel

Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., has been picked to chair the Joint Economic Committee, where he said he will seek practical and cooperative solutions to the country’s economic woes.

The appointment makes Mr. Casey the first committee chairman in the Senate’s class of 2006 and gives him a leadership role in most voters’ top concern as he gears up for a 2012 re-election campaign…

The committee is structured as a joint venture of the House and Senate, which means Mr. Casey’s vice chairman will be a yet-to-be-announced Republican House member. The committee holds monthly hearings examining the new unemployment statistics and was created to analyze economic policy…
