CAPITOLWIRE.COM: Gerlach out of gubernatorial race, plans to run again for Congress.

HARRISBURG (Jan.7) – U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach, R-Chester, ended his campaign for governor today, and sources say he instead will run for re-election to his congressional seat.

Gerlach’s departure from the gubernatorial race leaves state Attorney General Tom Corbett and state Rep. Sam Rohrer, R-Berks, as the two candidates vying for the Republican nomination in the May primary.

In a statement first posted on The Morning Call of Allentown’s Capitol Ideas blog, Gerlach said the high demands to raise funds was a primary reason for his exit.”

“While we have successfully raised over $1 million, traveled thousands of miles all across this Commonwealth and signed up more than 19,000 supporters eager to help us win, today’s media-driven campaigns require four times that amount to wage a successful primary,” he said.
