Candidate’s surprising rebound from scandal

NEW YORK TIMES: …Many political insiders are puzzled by Mr. Weiner’s strength in recent polls, which place him neck-and-neck with the longtime front-runner, Christine C. Quinn, the City Council speaker, in the Democratic primary.

Rival campaigns, which long ago predicted that he would never get beyond the scandal involving lewd photos he sent women over the Internet, say his gains are fleeting.

EDITOR: If we are to be judged by our worst indiscretion, who among us would be ‘worthy’ for office? And in Weiner’s case, what matters about his exhibition of bad taste in his private life. As a candidate, let him be judged for how good a mayor, governor or president he can be.
