Having been in the Brunswick, all I can say is: I’m glad they were shut down, to force them to upgrade. Until the Lancaster Arts Hotel opened, I had typically recommended for people to stay out of the city when coming to visit the area, because, as I told them, there were no hotels there I would be willing to stay at.
I have been to conventions in much smaller areas than Lancaster, and have seen the need for overflow hotels even in venues that do not have easily accessible airports. Lancaster does have the train station, and a number of airports anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes away.
Am I thrilled with all that has gone on around the convention center? Of course not. But I do think that Lancaster has the potential to draw in a good variety of conventions that will bring income to the area.
The Brunswick, if they fix all of the problems they have at that hotel, stands to gain from the opening of the convention center.
