Biden Assails Russian Intervention in Ukraine as ‘Unacceptable’

NEW YORK TIMES: …During a joint news conference, [Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.] Biden urged Ukraine’s president, Petro O. Poroshenko, to form a new government “in days, not weeks,” and to champion economic reforms, promote further economic integration with the West and root out what Mr. Biden called “the cancer of corruption.”

“Even if the guns in the east fell silent tomorrow, Ukraine would still face a struggle for its democratic and economic future here in Kiev,” Mr. Biden said on the first anniversary of the beginning of public protests that led to the former government’s ouster in February. “There is a lot of work to do in Kiev.”…

Mr. Biden called Moscow’s annexation of the Crimean Peninsula a “flagrant violation of the bedrock principles of the international system” and condemned the rebel-held elections on Nov. 2 as a “Kremlin-orchestrated farce.”… (more)
