Anonymous Deflate state lawmakers’ pension plan

DAILY ITEM:  The Harrisburg Patriot-News reports that former Senate Democratic Leader Robert Mellow of Lackawanna County wil receive more than $330,000 a year in pension payments, due to an obscene almost 40-year-old carryover from the days when he first took office. The pension payments will be triple his salary.

Former Rep. Frank Oliver of Philadelphia is eligible for a maximum yearly pension of $235,686. Four other retiring lawmakers will receive more than $100,000 from the pension plan, the Patriot-News reported.

Those numbers are higher than the payments pegged for the Valley’s retiring lawmakers. The difference relates to the leadership roles of the retiring lawmakers, augmented by more generous rules in place decades ago…  (more)
