An observation on expensive razor blades

Do we want a good shave or a status symbol?

My Italian barber prides himself in shaving with a straight blade. I won’t tell him (for fear of my life), but it leaves more stubble than the safety blades I use.

I have been buying Gillette Fusion blades, so costly that they are kept under lock and key at the pharmacy. They enable me to shave with four blades at a time.

When traveling I use an old fashion Gillette ejectable single blade razor. It shaves at least as close as the Fusion, and I believe even better.

And this morning while traveling without a suit case, I shaved with the cheapest imaginable disposable razor blade, provided gratis several months ago by a hotel and used a couple of times since.

Guess what? The shave was every bit as close as with any other.

What this teaches is there is no benefit other than a sense of financial well being in paying for multi-blades or for fancy shaving implements. A disposable or ejectable blade shaves just as close and saves a lot of money.

If we want to feel financially well off, let’s give the savings to charity.
