AG Kane’s driver seeks dismissal of contempt charge

SCRANTON TIMES-TRIBUNE: Patrick Reese, head of state Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane’s security detail, is seeking to dismiss charges he illegally accessed grand jury information, arguing he was never served a copy of the protective order he is accused of violating.

The former Dunmore police chief also contends Montgomery County Judge William Carpenter should recuse himself because he is named in the affidavit and has shown bias toward him and Ms. Kane.

Mr. Reese was charged Aug. 6 with indirect criminal contempt. Montgomery County prosecutors say he improperly accessed emails on a secure server to obtain information about a grand jury investigating if Ms. Kane leaked documents from a 2009 grand jury probe. That action violated a protective order issued by Judge Carpenter that barred attorney general staffers from accessing any information regarding a 2014 grand jury investigation into the leak… (more)
