A local hero falls

The Watchdog met Greg Skrepenak during his first term as a Luzerne County commissioner to discuss harm reduction issues.

Skrepenak was a local hero, having spent six seasons in the NFL for the Raiders and Panthers.  The public, who have long suffered from corruption in county government,  felt that at long last there was someone who they could depend upon for integrity and honesty.

Yesterday the former commissioner was sentenced to 24 months in prison for accepting $5,000 in gifts from a real estate developer.

Luzerne County has recently suffered the horrific disclosure that crooked judges were sentencing youths to prison in exchange for fees.

Hopefully we will never experience a major corruption scandal here in Lancaster…except, there is a small possibility that we may have.
