LANCASTER SUNDAY NEWS

According to Editor Peter Mekeel in his column “What belongs on Page 1?”:

“The editors have written previously in this space about our new dedication to an almost-always, all-local front page.

“And, although it’s not a philosophy that has pleased everyone or been without its pitfalls, most readers and advertisers seem to have embraced the concept and we seem to be getting better at it.

“We are convinced it’s the best thing for our company and our community.”

WATCHDOG: If the Lancaster Newspapers, Inc. is so convinced that turning its back on the news from outside the borders of Lancaster County is the right practice, why do the editors write basically the same column week after week explaining how this is popular with the public and how smart they are?

  1. ENOUGH is ENOUGH is ENOUGH already!!!! I am SO tired of this constant “pat outselves on the back’ editorializing (when it is nothing more than an unpaid advertisement for LNP). The entire readership knows all too well by now the ‘local, local, local’ emphasis of the editors and writers (except of course when it comes to investigating/reporting certain ‘sacred cows’ ….and we all know who they are!!!).
