Budget cuts put teachers at risk

Teaching was once seen as a stable career choice.  But in today’s world, even educators are not safe from the threat of pink slips.

Education officials say as many as 3,000 teachers and support staff in Pennsylvania could be laid off this year – and nationwide as many as 300,000 education jobs could be cut – as schools struggle to deal with declining revenue, increased expenses, the tapering off of federal stimulus money and, in Pennsylvania, the looming pension crisis…
