…In Pennsylvania, 34 legislators — four senators and 30 House members — or 13 percent of the General Assembly, have taken the now-famous no-tax pledge advocated by Grover Norquist. His D.C.-based Americans for Tax Reform group advocates for elected officials nationwide to swear on paper they will never boost taxes.
The biggest name in the state on that pledge list is Gov. Tom Corbett, who vowed during his campaign last year that he would not raise taxes.
“Nothing against Grover Norquist,” said Sen. Mike Folmer, R-Lebanon County, “but he didn’t take an oath to the Pennsylvania state Constitution. I did. … I have a constitutional duty to the citizens of Pennsylvania — that’s the real pledge.”
