Obama Calls Arizona Immigration Bill ‘Misguided’

…Calling the proposed law “misguided,” Obama cited the failure of the federal government to enact comprehensive immigration reform as one reason that the Arizona legislature was compelled to act.

“Our failure to act responsible at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others,” Obama said Friday at a Rose Garden ceremony in which 24 members of the U.S. military were made legal citizens. “That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine the basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe.” …

If the law is enacted, it will almost certainly be challenged in court, as the president seemed to suggest in his remarks…
