Just when we think the Intell-New Era has reformed

LancasterOnLine.com’s headline“‘Sexually violent predator’ to be paroled next month” congers up a madman, runnnig amok, molesting our women and children.

Here is what the article actually says:

“A ‘sexually violent predator’ convicted of molesting a pre-teen boy will be paroled next month upon good behavior, according to a court ruling.

“Brian Yellets, 40, has been in Lancaster County Prison since March on charges that he molested a boy in Lancaster from 1996 to 2003.

“County Judge Jeffery D. Wright accepted a plea agreement Tuesday, and sentenced Yellets to 1 to 2 years in prison. That means Yellets will be paroled next month if prison officials don’t object to his release upon serving the minimum…” (more)

The wording of the heading has purposefully been chosen to sensationalize concerning the extent of danger (and there is always some) and the judgment of the authorities.   If the matter deserves reporting, it deserves temperate treatment.

If the newspapers are going to so irresponsibly sensationiize every parole, how can those charged with making these difficult and painful decisions dispassionately fulfill their obligations?
