Who is subsidizing near empty flights to Lancaster?

I was at the Lancaster County Airport on Saturday picking up a client who came in from Baltimore and is building a home here and relocating.  He told me he he asked the pilot how Cape Air can make any money with only one passenger at times.  The reply was that the Authority subsidizes Cape Air.  Now there is an Airport Authority office at the airport that runs things similar to the covention center authority I am guessing.  Where is the money coming from, is it the tax payer?

EDITOR: In all likelihood, the route is subsidized by the U.S. government under the Essential Air Service (EAS) program.  So the answer is “yes”, it is the taxpayers.

  1. The airport has been a boondoggle for many years with the rich and the industry that can afford planes making out at the expense of the citizens tax money.

No one will go after the airport for some reason. Who paid for all the improvements to the airport grant after grant , and where does grants come from but our tax money.
