Another nail in the coffin of recovery and democracy

Editor:   Is there no shame?  During the worst recession since the Great Depression, a political party holds  hostage national (and world wide) recovery and the needs of the unemployed so that the top 1% of the population can grow even richer.    Where is the America of “the Greatest Generation?”

US House gives final passage to tax deal

WASHINGTON, December 17 – The US Congress gave final approval late on Thursday to the deal President Barack Obama and Republicans made to extend expiring tax cuts – a high-stakes gamble to create jobs at a cost of deepening the US debt.

Over objections from many of Mr Obama’s fellow Democrats, the House of Representatives, on a 277-148 vote, passed the $858bn package of renewed tax cuts and more unemployment benefits in an economy saddled with a nearly 10 per cent jobless rate.

The measure, approved overwhelmingly by the Senate on Wednesday, was expected to provide at least a short-term boost to the US economy but add to a $14,000bn national debt that some fear is nearing dangerous levels…

  1. The Greatest Generation is not in power, on either side of the aisle, and especially not in the oval office.

    America has become a country of “what will you do for me?”, rather than “what can I do for you?”. We have lost our moral compass in government, schools and church.

    We pay millions to atheltes and entertainers and think little of it, yet our libraries are underfunded!!! What’s wrong with this picture????
