Plan for community, schools and library to provide free books to students

The Lancaster Public Library is seeking donations to enable children from School District of Lancaster elementary schools to purchase discounted books at the Friends of Lancaster Public Library Annual Big Book Sale on May 21-23, 2012.

In this, the project’s first year, our goal is to raise $3,500 so that every single youngster in Ross and Hamilton Elementary Schools can participate in a walking field trip to the Book Sale with $5 each to spend on books of their own choosing. With most children’s books priced at 50 cents to $1, they would go home with an armful for summer

It’s one small step to help offset the impact of state funding cuts, which have left many school libraries open only one day a week.

Each $5 donation will give rise to a $5 voucher to a city school child.  You may sponsor one child, ten, an entire class, or an entire grade!

Donations can be mailed to the Lancaster Public Library, 125 North Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602, with checks payable to the “Lancaster Public Library”; online donations using a credit card can be made by clicking:
