LANCASTER NEW ERA

EditorialChick-fil-A’s policy reversal” opines:

“Chick-fil-A says, in so many words, that it has stopped funding organizations that oppose same-sex marriage.

“If true, the about-face is a win for gay-and-lesbian groups who had threatened to boycott the fast-food chain over comments made by Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy in support of traditional marriage.

“Losers are those who support the religious liberties guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.”

WATCHDOG: Although we agree that it was patently wrong and foolish for the mayors of Chicago and Boston to threaten to block future Chick-fil-A sites, we do not think that it is an attack on freedom of speech for aggrieved members of the public to speak back.

Incidentally, the New Era editors had their facts wrong about the position of Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York.

“The comment created a stir in the LGBT community and among the politically correct. Mayors from New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles said they would block Chick-fil-A from coming to their cities.”

Bloomberg said from the outset that Chick-fi-A was welcome to expand in New York City.  It was the mayors of Chicago and Boston were the ones who made threats.

Lastly, The editorial made reference to the “LGBT community.” We looked it up.  It stands for “lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender.”
