F & M Over reacted

From a city police press release:

At 8:20 PM on Monday, September 27, 2010, numerous Lancaster City Police Officers, assisted by members of the detective division, responded to 600 Race Ave., Franklin and Marshall College after security officers at the college reported they observed a subject enter the trunk of his vehicle and then walk into a dormitory with what appeared to be a handgun. A registration check determined the owner of the vehicle was not a listed college student. City officers worked with Franklin and Marshall College Security to secure the dormitory in question and the college also placed their entire campus on lockdown, causing sirens to be heard in the area.

At 8:50 PM, officers stopped a subject outside the dormitory that matched the description of the subject with the handgun and he was positively identified by Franklin and Marshall Security as the subject they had seen earlier. It was determined that the subject was not armed and the item he removed from his trunk and carried into the dormitory was found to be a tool that was similar in shape to a handgun. The campus lockdown was then lifted.

F&M is vying for certification from the Attorney General so that they may carry guns.  Mark my words – this above will be used as ‘proof’ of the need.

It’s not illegal to carry a gun on F&M’s campus (their ‘rules’ are civil matters)  and absent a THREAT – their response/reaction is ridiculous
