Budget cut deadlock needlessly punishes Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG PATRIOT NEWS EDITORIAL:  … Education: Pennsylvania would lose about $26.4 million in funding for primary and secondary education, putting around 360 teacher and aide jobs at risk. About 29,000 fewer students would be served and approximately 90 fewer schools would receive funding. More than 2,000 kids would lose access to early childhood education.

Military: About 26,000 civilian Department of Defense employees would be furloughed, reducing gross pay by around $150.1 million in total. The Letterkenny Army Depot could lose thousands of jobs. In addition, more than 800 civilian workers at the Carlisle Barracks could be forced to take unpaid furlough days.,,

Kids with disabilities: Pennsylvania would lose $21.4 million in funds for about 260 teachers, aides, and staff who help children with disabilities…  (more)

EDITOR: Our greatest concern is that the sequester will halt the economic recovery and perhaps put the country back into a sharp recession.  Who would invest in the face of such uncertainty?
