Article headed “In Storm Around Tiger, Everybody Loses” goes on to say “There was once a time when sports stars could lead private lives. That era ended, officially, at 3PM on Dec. 1. When Tiger Woods’ $164 fine became news, our writer says things changed for the worse. Tiger’s at fault, but our writer finds the whole thing deplorable.”

For a long period, Tiger Woods was undoubtedly one of my heroes. He epitomized excellence.

Okay, I am not fantastic, but when a heroic public figure is seen to be so tarnished, it will take the hero out of heroism. All one has left is “-ism” — idiot, stupid, moron. Is he a superb golfer? Without a doubt he is.

Almost certainly he’ll always be viewed as one of the best for all time.

"....I have never made it a consideration whether the subject was popular or unpopular, but whether it was right or wrong; for that which is right will become popular, and that which is wrong, though by mistake it may obtain the cry or fashion of the day, will soon lose the power of delusion, and sink into disesteem." Thomas Paine, Common Sense, on "Financing the War", March 5, 1782
