“Legislation introduced in Congress last month could expand the ‘universal meals’ approach to millions of students and help President Barack Obama fulfill his pledge to end childhood hunger by 2015, supporters say.
“Universal meals mean better nutrition and a better educational experience for a greater percentage of low-income children, said [nutritionist Katie] Wilson, who is also president of School Nutrition Association.”
WATCHDOG: A similar approach has been proposed by the School District of Lancaster.
